TECHNICAL ISSUES Aside form the timing, the only technical issue I had throughout the 3d animatic was the rigging. Specifically, the binding of the skin with my model.  As soon as I bound the skin to the geometry, the model began to deform. To solve this I went to Rigging-Paint skin weights. I clicked on the joint and found it had a lot of influence on my geometry.  I then began to paint away the effect.

STEPPED ANIMATION I took my shot list and began to pose my character.  Throughout the animatic the poses were fairly similar to the 2d animatic. The posing was done mostly during the drawing stage and I didnt really change them in 3d. FRAMING Some of the framing was changed to the original drawings. If I saw something that had better framing, I would go ahead and change the framing. CAMERA MOVEMENT Camera movement was the real big difference with the animatic in 3d. Adding camera  movement to a static shot made the shot more interesting. I also added more in between poses to show more detail with the movement of the character.

TIMING Working out the timing was all done in Photoshop. I took all the frames I drew and used the timeline in Photoshop to time my animation.  I did this because I didn't have premiere at home, so I had to use this as my timing resource. I then wrote down and listed the timing( see below) I made sure to write every shot and how long it would take Maya. For example the first shot was 4 seconds long, that in Maya is frame 1- 96. I used this information when I got to Maya, and simply posed my character according to the shot list.

POST6 LIGHTING AND TEXTURING COLOUR For my scene I collected several images to dress up my scene and provide some detail. For the colour I used a shade of orange like my reference material as my base colour. It gives an old school “worn out” feel to the scene and I wanted to keep that from the Up reference.   BAG For the bag I wanted to keep it blue to make it stand out of the scene. The punching bag. I textured it with the Fenech Logo form my own punching bag. I made the blue more saturated to make it stand out of the scene. OLD SCHOOL POSTERS Some of the details I noticed in the creed scene was that there were several old school boxing posters hanging on the wall. I collected a range of old boxing posters and began to place them around my scene. The idea is to have them against the walls, essentially decorating the space and making it feel more “lived in”.    LIGHTING For the lighting, I placed a window...

POST 5 COLOUR RESEARCH For the colour stage I began to look at reference. I mostly used movies which I liked and started looking at different scenes which had the lighting and colour I wanted for my animatic. MOVIES For my research I looked at two movies,"UP" from Pixar Animation Studios in 2009, and "Creed" from Warner Bros. Pictures in 2015. There were several shots where I studied the lighting and the colour used. One of the scenes from Up was a stand out, I chose the scene form the beginning of the film when Carl, the main character, meets Ellie for the first time. I used this image to influence the colours for my animatic. COMPLIMENTARY COLOUR SCHEME This is a very special moment in the film where Carl meets his wife during infancy. The different shades of yellow and orange work well to highlight this special scene giving feelings happiness and warmth, establishing the connection between these characters. The scene also uses blue to highli...

POST 4 LAYOUT  Using the reference I collected, I modeled alot of different types of objects ranging from chairs, stools, buckets. It was great practice to model and I was happy to have so many different types of geometry to place in my scene. GREY BOXING AND LAYOUT  The following shots are the current layout of the scene. I'm not happy with it but I feel I need to move on since time is running out. I took all the objects I was modelling and began to place them into my scene. Trying to find the best way to fit them in. I tried my best to fit in alot of different types of objects. To do this I placed alot of the boxing bags up against the walls. The center of the space was for the boxing bag the character will interact with, and the boxing ring.  Overall this proved to be the most challenging part of the assessment. It was hard to fit all the elements I wanted. It took me a long time to arrange the space effectively. I had to settle for what I had...

POST 3 MODELLING For this stage I started by modelling some of the boxing equipment. Having the real thing in front as I modeled proved to be very helpful in seeing the details and overall form. This saved a lot of time during the modelling process.                                                                                                                                                                                                                  ...
